Paper Planes – Pineapple Express Song
People keep asking “What is the name of the song on the Pineapple Express trailer?” So I did a little research and found out that the name of the song is Paper Planes by an artist called M.I.A. from the 2007 release of her second studio album Kala. Upon release several publications dubbed it as one of the best albums of the year.
M.I.A. was born Mathangi “Maya” Arulpragasam on July, 17th. 1977 in Hounslow, London to a Tamil activist-turned militant, Arul Pragasam. When se was only six months old her family moved back to their native Sri Lanka where her father was a founding member of The Eelam Revolutionary Organisation of Students (EROS), a political Tamil group. Her contact with her father was limited since she was hiding from the Sri Lanka Army. As the civil war escalated it became unsafe for her family and they moved to Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. Eventually, Arulpragasam, her bother, sister and mother Kala moved back to London where they were housed as refugees.
Arulpragasam graduated from London’s Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design, with a degree in fine art, film and video. She is currently living in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn, New York and is reportedly engaged to Benjamin Brewer, singer and guitarist for the band The Exit.

Dunno what to think heavy stuff
Hey Lina cool stuff.
People know that siri lanka had been in a constantly “civil war” considering the fact of the actions done by the LTTE. It’s hard to believe that the chickz gotta her part on that stuff. Who knows?
Universal Music Group pulled her song off the trailer of their new film Pineapple Express… is this the start of the end of MIA’s music career in the US?
Rumor has it that Canada is strongly considering banning MIA from entering the country due to her possible terrorist connections.
The US refused MIA’s visa numerous times, they need to yank it out of her hand on her way out of the country!
And I just found this link to E-Entertainment TV’s website:
E-Online has posted the article about MIA and we need to have 300 comments on their page BY THE END OF TODAY in order to get their attention and further featuring on their site.
You can make a difference right now! Please go to this link right away and express your opinion, this is a pivotal time in this campaign to get the

While I will make no claims to know M.I.A’s motives behind her lyrics I can tell you that you are incorrect and should check some of your facts. UMG has not pulled her song from the trailer they are simply running other trailers. The trailers with her song just ran during the So you think you can dance finally. And how will comments on the E! website change anything the story is just a repost of a AP story.
Sometimes you gotta be extreme to make an impact in society — and I think that’s what DeLon did exactly. I don’t agree that the use of the images was irreverence — it was an exaggeration of the irreverence that M.I.A. has been showing through her career through the use of terrorist-related symbols and lyrics. You gotta give some credit to this guy for having the guts to speak out on this matter. Terrorism is not a matter to be taken lightly, even in music, specially with hip hop music, a genre that influences many people.

What bothers me most of all is that they’re having a war against war. I think the best thing that should happen is for M.I.A. and Delon to be on the same side — moving for peace and unity in Sri Lanka. I mean come on, this internet war isn’t making things better. I believe that if M.I.A. and Delon work on the same side, for peace and unity, that would serve us all better.
